I am a drawing creature, dedicated to capturing the beauty of the natural and human worlds, channeling patience and precision into each line and detail.
Vsevolod Bernstein is the author of books for adults and children, weaving tales that blend his love of exploration and poetic fascination with the unknown, while igniting readers’ imagination and curiosity.
Welcome to the creative universe of Vsevolod Bernstein, a master storyteller whose narratives transcend the ordinary.
Vsevolod Bernstein’s journey as an author is as fascinating as the subjects he writes about. Born and raised in Angarsk (Irkutsk Region, Russia), an ocean engineer by profession, Vsevolod always had an inquisitive mind. “My native Irkutsk Oblast”, he says, “is a unique place on the globe in terms of remoteness from seas and oceans. In any direction it is thousands and thousands of kilometres. At the same time, both Captain Ahab and Jim Hawkins have always been close by, all you have to do is reach out your hand to the bookshelf. Boys who grew up in Vladivostok, Murmansk or Odessa, have a much more correct, realistic idea about sea life, about sailors, and Siberian Konstantin Levshin turned out to be such an unclouded romantic, idealist, always getting into trouble. There is poetry in it and, besides, a fertile material for a lot of unexpected plot twists.”
Vsevolod took part in marine expeditions, worked as a journalist in Russia and Switzerland, and also owns an excursion bureau Zurigrad in Zurich.
In 2015 Vsevolod Bernstein created the children’s creative development centre “DAR”. The centre runs literary courses and a children’s film studio.
“For me”, he says, “a writer is The Catcher in the Rye. So, Catcher in the Rye is a very powerful and accurate image of what I think a real writer should be. Imagine a chasm in the rye, with kids playing nearby and people living in general. The writer’s job is to make sure that no one falls into that abyss. If someone falls, it’s his, the writer’s, fault: he missed it, didn’t save him. The terrible wars of the twentieth century were the writers’ fault. And the wars of this century too. They did not save, did not point to the abyss, did not convince. That’s the only reason to be a writer. Maybe it sounds too high-minded, but we live in interesting times, when all other reasons to be a writer, such as money, fame, position in society, turned out to be utopian. There are no other goals left but the loftiest ones. Am I worthy to be called a writer? I’m not sure. But at least that’s what I’m striving for.”
“Reading a good book, just like watching a good film, is an exchange of creative energy. There is that pleasantly tingling feeling that remains after reading a good book, you want to do something good too. The author’s inspiration, embedded in the lines of the text does not disappear without a trace, it is transferred to the readers. Like kinetic energy – you get a push and roll until you bump into someone and transfer the energy to them. This is how it happens with literature, and with cinema, and with music, and with all other kinds of creativity.” Vsevolod Bernstein
After studying Biochemistry in his native Zaragoza and researching for a year at Cambridge University (UK), Pablo obtained master’s degree and a PhD on Neurosciences at the University of Barcelona. It was after finishing them that he became a finalist in the scientific monologue competition ‘FamelabEspaña’ and moved from the labs to the stage.
His studies at the Ateneo Barcelonés Writing School have led him to publish Neurogamer (2021, Ed. Paidós), a book that explores how video games affect our brain. He is also author and co-author of science journalism articles (elPaís) and several popular science books, among them “The Human Brain”, which was translated to German and published by Eurasian Scientific Editions.
Pablo has also studied at Imperial College London, obtained the prestigious master’s degree Science Media Production, and has twice won national funding (FECYT) for audiovisual projects: Neurocosas (2017) and Neuropíldoras (2018). All this information and experience has led him to work as a trainer in all aspects of science communication and you can follow his work on the Neurocosas channel: www.youtube.com/neurocosas
Isa studied Design at the University of Aveiro and continued her professional path in Barcelona, practicing in design and architecture studios as a senior graphic designer for more than 10 years.
Her passion has always been illustration, so she decided to refine her skills and ended up specializing in scientific illustration (inter alia, she studied in Illustraciencia Academy) and thereby contributing to the communication of human knowledge.
“I discovered beauty in the bizarre beings of the natural world as well as in the intricacies of the human body, and a real pleasure in drawing them. I take advantage of my inexhaustible patience to observe and draw what is complex, using objectivity as the fundamental basis of my work”. Isa Loureiro”
In 2021 Isa received the Junceda award in the category of Scientific Illustration. Today she works as an independent professional designer and illustrator, always willing to get involved in projects or commissions that put her imagination and her hand to the test.
“I am a drawing creature, dedicated to the visualization of science, with the desire to inspire children and adults alike”. Isa Loureiro”
